Company History
Founded in 1957 in Sheffield, UK, SIG has grown from a single site insulation distribution business into a multi-national specialist distribution business operating in four different market sectors. The Company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in May 1989 and is listed within the Support Services sector.

First insulation distribution branch opened in Sheffield as Sheffield Insulations Limited.

SIG lists on the London Stock Exchange as Sheffield Insulations Group with 30 insulation distribution branches.

1990
Acquisition of CDL a three branch supplier of ceilings products in the UK, now forming part of CPD.

1994
Acquisition of Freeman Group, the second largest insulation materials distributor in the UK with operations in France. Acquisition of Isokauf in Germany giving SIG its first exposure to the German insulation market. Chris Davies joins SIG.

1996
Acquisition of WKT and Golinski, both in Germany establishing the Group as the largest distributor in Germany.

Acquisition of Asphaltic, a major UK roofing supplier. .

2000
Entrance into Dutch market via acquisition of Nouwens Group.

2001
Acquisition of Capco (Interiors, Roofing and Insulation) in UK and Ireland.

2002
David Williams become Group Chief Executive, Gareth Davies joins Main Board as Group Finance Director. Acquisition of AM Proos and Clydesdale Roofing in the UK.

2004
Entrance into Belgian and Austrian markets via organic development. Les Tench becomes Chairman of the Board. UK Ceilings & Partitioning businesses merged to form CPD plc. Acquisition of Orion Trent Insulation in the UK.

2006
Record sales growth and increased margins. Exit from USA industrial insulation market, entrance into the German Roofing market and significant expansion in Poland. £109m of spend on acquisitions.

2007
Entrance into Czech Republic & Slovakia. Entrance into the French Roofing market through the acquisition of LARIVIERE. Total number of employees exceeds 10,000.

2008
Entrance into Hungary, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria via the acquisition of Air Trade Centre International. David Williams retired after 24 years of service, Chris Davies is appointed Chief Executive.

Leslie Van de Walle becomes Chairman on 31st January.
